Canon Powershots: Two New Elphs and a Pair of A’s

Canon Powershots SD1000 & SD750

Canon has introduced two new ultracompact SD-series Digital ELPH cameras and two more compact A-series point-and-shoot cameras in its PowerShot line.

The $349 SD750 and the $299 SD1000 update last year’s SD600 and SD630. They both offer 7.1-megapixel resolution and an f/2.8-4.9, 35mm-105mm (35mm equivalent) 3x zoom lens. The new ELPHs use Canon’s new DIGIC III image processor to enhance performance and image quality in both photo and video modes.

The main difference between the two is their optical viewfinders: the SD750 has none but sports a 3-inch 230K-pixel LCD monitor, while the SD1000 packs the same 230,000 pixels in a smaller 2.5” screen supplemented with an optical viewfinder.

The $230 A560 and the $280 A570IS offer 7.1-megapixel resolution; an f/2.6-5.5, 35mm-140mm (35mm equivalent) 4x zoom lens; an optical viewfinder, and a 115,000-pixel, 2.5-inch LCD. Both cameras also use Canon’s new DIGIC III image processor to enhance performance and image quality in both photo and video modes.
