Canon has unveiled their new PowerShot G1 X at the 2012 International CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The G1 X is a compact camera with a large CMOS sensor, in what appears to be a continuation of the G series after the G12, but the company seemed to be avoiding the number 13.

With 14.3-megapixels in a large 4:3 aspect ratio CMOS sensor, 3-inch flip-out LCD, metal construction, optical viewfinder and stabilized lens, what’s not to like in the new G1 X? Sure, the lens is not interchangeable, but with a really useful 28-112mm equivalent range, do you still want to change lenses?

Canon said combining the large sensor with the DIGIC 5 image processor, the HS System in the PowerShot G1 X sets new standards for low-light performance, with a maximum full resolution ISO range of 100 to 12800 – a level never before seen in a Canon compact.

The Canon G1 X will start shipping in February, with a retail price of around $800.
