Canon HG10 HD Camcorder

Canon USA has introduced its HG10 HD (High Definition) camcorder, their first hard drive-based video camera.

The company said the new camcorder features a 10x HD Video lens, full high definition CMOS image sensor, Canon’s proprietary DIGIC DV II Image Processor, optical image stabilization and instant autofocus.

A posting in Canon’s Japan website says the HG10 records in AVCHD high definition format onto a 40GB hard disk drive instead of a DVD platter.

The HG10 HD camcorder is bundled with a Corel software suite that includes AVCHD Editing in which users can trim, reorder and combine scenes, as well as add music titles and transitions. The user may then burn the edited video onto either a full size AVCHD DVD or Standard Definition DVD.

The Canon HG10 HD camcorder will be available in the U.S. for about $1300.
