Canon has introduced an elegantly styled but low-priced printer that seeks to answer the need for low cost photo printing at home. Not just low-priced printer but also low-priced ink.
With Kodak due to ship thrifty printers in March, Canon announced last Wednesday its PIXMA iP1800 Photo Printer, featuring an attractive black design with an equally attractive price of $49. And the ink? $16 for the PG-30 pigment black ink cartridge, and $20 for the CL-31 tri-color ink cartridge.
Now, that’s more like it. Folks who wish to print photos at home may now find it more affordable to do so.
Canon says the PIXMA iP1800 Photo Printer can deliver photo-lab quality borderless 4×6 – inch photos in approximately 70 seconds. It can also print photos from wallet size straight through letter size without purchasing any optional accessories.
Are we now seeing the demise of the printing industry’s razor-and-blades business model?
