Canon EOS 40D Does Astrophotography

Canon EOS 40D Rigged for Astrophotography

How well does the new Canon EOS 40D perform in photographing stars?

Chris Buill notes that it’s interesting to see that you can use ISO 100 with 40D to get “the same” astro image as ISO 400 on 400D. And while the 40D does not seem to be more sensitive for faint flux applications than its predecessors, the new camera shows real advances in its 14-bit coding, long exposure capability and its LiveView mode.

Chris concludes that with 14 bits in the 40D, digitization noise should be less of an issue.
