Canon Announces 21MP EOS 5D Mark II DSLR with HD Movie Capability

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera

The new Canon EOS 5D Mark II looks even more awesome than the company’s flagship EOS 1Ds Mark III, with its HD movie capability and ISO 100 to ISO 6400 (expands to ISO 50 to ISO 25,600). Sensor-wise both DSLRs are at par at 21.1 megapixels, full frame. Price-wise, it’s $2,700 for the 5D Mark II against $8,000 for the 1Ds Mark III.

Canon introduced today its long-awaited successor to the hugely successful EOS 5D, equipping it with a full frame 24x36mm CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 image processor and adding HD video recording capability first introduced by Nikon in its D90 DSLR. (Is it true that you can overwork the image sensor in movie mode and make its life shorter?)

“The anticipation surrounding the launch of this camera model has exceeded our greatest expectations, and we believe our loyal customers will be awed by the level of innovation and features built into the new EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR. Once they have the chance to experience the camera, we believe they will agree that it was worth the wait,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.
