The Art Gallery of Ontario and Aeroplan are launching the Grange Prize, the largest photography award in Canada with a top prize of C$50,000 – about US$42,000.

The Grange Prize, named after the AGO’s historic home, will be bestowed every year to one of five nominated photographers selected by a jury. Recipients will include both Canadian citizens and photographers from a global region outside of Canada.

The international candidates for the award will be invited to Canada for artist-in-residency programs at art centers or photography schools. A student or practicing photographer will also be selected to intern with each international candidate.

Information of the Grange Prize will be available on AGO’s website by spring this year and the first Grange Prize recipient will be announced in spring 2008.
