A good 5 months away is FotoWeek DC, a new photography festival which will feature exhibits in nearly every gallery and museum throughout Washington D.C. It will also feature lectures and workshops as well as a big photo contest open to the public.
The week-long event will be held from November 15-22, 2008. It will be the first Annual FotoWeek DC and is billed as the city’s premier photography event of 2008.
Organizers of the event are now calling for entries to its juried awards, a competition “designed to recognize, honor, and celebrate the achievements of area professional photographers in the community of their peers through submissions of work in six disciplines.â€
There are categories for professionals, students and amateurs ranging from Fine Art and Photojournalism to Sports and Weddings. There is also an overarching Spirit of Washington category for all entrants. Four winners will be chosen in each of the specialized categories and put on display at a venue in Georgetown through the week.
The grand prize winner in the Spirit of Washington category will receive $5,000 worth of prizes. There’s also $2,000 for the Best of Show winners in each of the six (6) entry categories in Architecture, Commercial/Advertising/Fashion, Fine Art, Photojournalism/Editorial, Personal Project, and Wedding, plus other prizes.
Entry fees range from $10 to $25, depending on category.
