Blurb.com has released a free beta update to their BookSmart software that enables users to create, share and distribute affordable bookstore-quality books.

Blurb BookSmart Beta 1.7.7 introduces a collection of tools to further enhance and customize the book design process. It also speeds up the upload process to about two to three times faster than before.

To create a book, users start by downloading the free BookSmart software which will be used to design the book, add logos and photos to it, create the text and upload the finished book file. The user may then make an order with Blurb.com to print the book.

A full-color 7 x 7-inch softcover book with 40 pages, for instance, will cost only $12.95. Customers can buy one or many books; there will be discounts for orders of 25 copies or more.
