At Photokina: Nokia Shows Off N95 5MP Phone

Nokia N95 5MP Phone

Photokina 2006 is now in full swing in Cologne, Germany. It’s a veritable beehive of activities as visitors from all over the world hop from booth to booth and hall to hall gawking at the latest offerings from 1,600 suppliers in the photography and imaging industry. Even Nokia is there. What’s a phone maker doing at Photokina? It’s got camera phones, that’s why, and its latest offering is the Nokia N95.

Coming on the heels of the widely advertised N93, the N95 features an aggressive 5-megapixel image sensor but more conservatively styled than its acrobatic sibling. The Nokia N95 body is a new 2-way slide design and it offers integrated GPS functionality. Slide the phone up and you’re reading maps in GPS mode; slide it down and you can watch video; no slide and you have a camera phone.

Nokia said the N95 also offers a first class entertainment experience with the combination of a large 2.6″ QVGA 16 million color LCD display, impressive 3D graphics, built-in stereo speakers offering a 3D stereo effect, standard 3.5 mm audio jack, support for compatible microSD cards and mini USB for convenient data transfer.

It will hit stores in Q1 2007 with a hefty price tag: €550 or about $700 (Ouch! But it could be worth every dollar you pay for an all-in-one multimedia computer).
