Artificial Muscle Inc. has released the newest MLP-85 actuator based on its latest smartMOVE platform of electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM) technology.

The MLP-85 actuator is an electronic muscle designed for use with camera modules to move the lens during autofocus. It also has potential uses in image stabilization and optical zoom.

The company says artificial muscle technology offers a much lighter, smaller, quieter, cheaper and more controllable and flexible alternative to current actuators in the market.

The MLP-85 will be demonstrated at the forthcoming 6Sight – Future of Imaging executive conference to be held Nov. 8 and 9 in Monterey, California.
