AOP Does the Math, Also Slams $49 Plan of Getty Images

The Association of Photographers (AOP) did their own calculations to find out that it’s disadvantageous for Getty Images to sell $49 licenses for images across all licensing models (RM, RR, RF).

The AOP have added their voices to the opposition against Getty’s plan. It said, “The launch of such a model means that photographers who currently have work with Getty will see a cut of around 95% on a like for like basis. It is the opinion of the AOP that such cuts do not represent a viable or sustainable business model for our Members.”

The association adds that Getty’s plan to sell the images at very low rates will have a negative impact upon all rates, stock or assignment.

An international coalition of photographic trade associations, led by the Stock Artists Alliance (SAA) have earlier denounced Getty Images’ $49 marketing initiative.
