Adobe Systems will soon release an online hosted version of its highly successful Photoshop image-editing application. This was revealed today by Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen in an interview with CNET.com.

Chizen said the online service is part of a larger move to introduce ad-supported online services to complement its existing products and broaden the company reach into the consumer market. He said Adobe laid the foundation for a hosted Photoshop product with Adobe Remix, a Web-based video-editing tool it offers through the PhotoBucket media-sharing site.

“We are watching folks like Google do it in different categories, and we want to make sure that we are there before they are, in areas of our franchises,” Chizen said.

The planned hosted Photoshop service – to launch within six months – will be ad-supported and will be offered free to online users.
