64th Pictures of the Year International Announces Winners

Winners have been announced in the 64th Pictures of the Year International competition, which is currently being judged at the University of Missouri.

Magnum photographer Christopher Anderson and staff photographer Tyler Hicks of the New York Times have emerged top winners in the POYi contest.

Hicks emerged as Newspaper Photographer of the Year for his photos of the Israel-Lebanon conflict, the war in Afghanistan, wounded American veterans, and poverty in Camden, N.J., while Anderson was named Magazine Photographer of the Year for work including images from Venezuela, Gaza and Lebanon.

The World Understanding Award went to Renee Byer for “A Mother’s Journey,” and the Community Awareness Award went to Yoon Byun of Ohio University for “The Fagans.”
