Only five days to go before the January 31 deadline of the Olympus-sponsored British Underwater Image Festival (BUIF) photo contest. There’s more than £10,000 (about $20,000) worth of prizes for underwater photographers and videographers who will join the contest. BUIF will be held March 16-18, 2007 at the Birmingham NEC as part of the Go Diving! show.

Stills images will be judged by highly acclaimed underwater photographer Alex Mustard, DIVE’s editor Simon Rogerson and DIVE’s senior correspondent and award winning photographer Charles Hood. The winners and runners up in the film categories will be chosen by the BBC Blue Planet and Planet Earth film-maker Peter Scoones, DIVE’s editor Simon Rogerson and Sport Diver’s editor Mark Evans.

The best 50 prints from the Open Category, ten from the Portfolio Category and ten from the Digital Compact Category will be displayed on the walls outside the DIVE theatre, while six finalists in the film categories will be shown throughout the show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
